Many websites offer little or no support for HTTPS, which can leave you exposed to many risks. HTTPS Everywhere can fix this issue, by rewriting all non-secure requests to a websites to HTTPS. The best part is that HTTPS Everywhere is a lightweight browser extensions and that it doesn't require too much user input.

HTTPS Everywhere is available for Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Opera and you can also install it on Firefox for Android. The installation procedure may vary slightly, depending on your preferred browser, but getting the extension up and running won't be a challenge, regardless of your choice.

Once installed, HTTPS Everywhere will place a new button on your browser's interface. Clicking this button will reveal all requests to the currently accessed website in a pop-up menu, along with a few options. The extension makes use of a huge rules atlas. It is essentially a white list, with domain names that are affected by the extension's rules.

The presented requests, in the aforementioned pop-up menu, are affected by HTTPS Everywhere, which means that they are rewritten to use HTTPS. You can disable the HTTPS rules for individual requests, by simply clicking the requests in the pop-up menu. It is also possible to block all requests at once, with a single click.

One of the extension's advantages, from which you can benefit directly, is the fact that it can detect and prevent attacks on your web browser. For this, the extension sends copies of HTTPS certificates to EFF's SSL Observatory. The use of the Observatory is optional and you can tweak some features, like checking certificates using Tor, sending ISP information to the Observatory when you encounter a new certificate and more.

Pros

The extension can rewrite countless requests to a website to use HTTPS. It uses a huge rules atlas for countless domain names. Also, the extension uses EFF's SSL Observatory to prevent attacks on your web browser.

Cons

If you disable the extension on Firefox, from the pop-up menu, you may find it difficult to turn it back on. With HTTPS Everywhere, a few clicks are sufficient to increase your web browser's security significantly.
